Remember Your Players
Your game can remember. A returning player who sees "Best: 4,200" feels at home straight away.
In short
- One small save slot per player per Game, written with
reportResultand shared across all of its Posts.- Use it for a personal best or a preference, never for XP, levels, unlockables or your own leaderboards.
- Store a version number in the value so older saves stay readable.
One small save slot per player
Every Game can have one save slot for each player. Turn it on in Minit Studio: edit your Game, tick Store User Data and give it a key. It's small (up to 1 KB) but that's plenty for the things that make a player feel recognized.
Your game reads the slot when it starts, with getUserData(), and writes it at the end of the run, together with the result in reportResult. That's the only moment it can be saved, so plan what you want to remember by the time the run ends.
Players don't need to do anything. There's no sign-up and no "save" button; the app takes care of it.
It follows the player across your Posts
The save slot belongs to the Game, not to a single Post. That means:
- It's shared across every Post of your Game (and, soon, every Mod).
- If you give several of your Games the same save key, they share it too.
- It survives when you upload a new version of your Game.
So a personal best set on Monday's Post is still there on Friday's, even if you shipped an update in between.
Good things to remember
The best uses make the next Post feel personal without changing the challenge:
- A personal best. "Best: 4,200" in the corner gives every run a target.
- Preferences. Sound on or off, left- or right-handed controls.
- Mechanics they've already seen. Skip the explanation of a power-up the player has met before.

Each of these makes a returning player's first second smoother, which keeps them playing to the finish.
Things it must never hold
Some uses break the format or the platform rules, so keep them out:
- XP, levels and unlockables. Minit Games handles player progress. Your game shouldn't run its own.
- Your own leaderboards. Rankings come from the platform.
- Anything meant to pull players back, such as streaks or "come back tomorrow" rewards.
- Browser storage. Don't save anything in the browser yourself; use the save slot instead.
Remember: every Post must still work for someone who has never played before (The Minit Games Format!). A save slot should make the game nicer for regulars, never harder for newcomers.
Tip: Store a version number inside your saved value. When you change what you save later, your game can recognize older data and handle it gracefully instead of breaking.
