Testing Your Game on Device (Preview & Share Links)
Test a game on a real device, or share it for feedback, before it goes live. No account needed to play.
Where to find it
Every game's Live preview panel (on its post page and its project page) has a QR button next to the mute button. It opens a link + QR code anyone can scan to play the exact same build on a real device.
Available for any status except disabled or deleted: draft, scheduled, and published.
Generating a link
- Open the game's post or project page.
- Click the QR button in the Live preview panel.
- Draft or scheduled: click Generate preview link. Published: the link appears immediately.
- Copy with Copy link, or scan the QR code.
The link opens the public play page (.../play/[id]); a draft/scheduled link carries a temporary permission token. With the Minit Games app installed, the game opens in the app; without it, it plays on a web page with links to download the app.
Draft and scheduled: it expires
- Valid for 15 minutes from generation. The card shows the exact expiry time.
- Click Regenerate for a fresh one. Regenerating doesn't retroactively invalidate a copy someone has open; each link just stops working after its own 15 minutes.
- A scheduled game's link works exactly like a draft's.
Published: it's permanent
Once published, the QR button shows a permanent Share link: no expiry, no Generate step; the same public link anyone can reach.
Who can generate one
Only the game's owner. The affordance doesn't appear on games you don't own.
Treat a draft/scheduled link like a password
Anyone with the link (or a photo of the QR code) can play while the token is valid, even without a Minit Games account.
Common questions
- Does a preview play count toward my stats? No. Draft/scheduled preview plays earn no XP and don't count toward public stats. A published game's plays count normally.
- Can I preview a disabled or deleted game? No. The QR button doesn't appear for those.
- The link doesn't open? Draft/scheduled: it likely expired, so generate a new one. Publishing, disabling, or deleting the game since generation also invalidates it.
